Safely Enjoying Candles at Home: Tips for Candle Care and Alternative Home Fragrances

Candles, with their warm glow and soothing scents, can create a cosy ambiance in any home. However, enjoying them safely is essential to prevent accidents and maximise their lifespan. Here’s a guide to safely burning candles and exploring alternative home fragrance options.

Candle Safety

Choosing the Right Candle: Opt for high-quality candles made frown naturals materials like soy or beeswax. These burn cleaner and produce less soot. At Little Moments Melts, all of our candles are made from 100% soy wax.

Positioning your Candle: Always place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, pets, and children. Keep them at least 1 foot, or 30 cm away from anything flammable.

Trimming Wicks: Trim wicks to about ¼ inch, or 6mm before lighting to prevent excessive flickering, sooting, and uneven burning.

Avoiding Long Burns: Limit burn time to 3-4 hours per session to prevent overheating and ensure an even burn.

Extinguish with Care: Use a snuffer or gently blow out candles instead of blowing directly on the flame to avoid hot wax splatter.

Checking for Debris: Remove any wick trimmings or debris from the wax pool to prevent flaring.

Candle Care for Even Burning

Once you’ve lit your new candle, make sure you follow these tips to ensure the wax burns evenly and you get the most out of your new purchase:

First Burn is Crucial: Allow the candle to burn until the wax melts across the entire surface on the first use. This prevents tunnelling and promotes even burning in subsequent uses.

Avoid Drafts: Drafts can cause uneven burning. Keep candles away from vents or open windows.

Rotate Occasionally: If you notice uneven melting, gently rotate the candle to ensure an even burn.

Alternative Home Fragrance Options

If you’re not a candle fan, you can still add stunning aromas to your home with our alternative home fragrance options:

Reed Diffusers: Diffuser bottles use reeds to draw and disperse fragrance oil into the air. They are low-maintenance, offering continuous fragrance without the need for a flame.

Room Sprays: Quick and effective, room sprays offer an instant burst of fragrance. They’re versatile and great for freshening up spaces when you’re in a hurry.

There’s a whole host of benefits when using reed diffusers or rooms sprays, here are the top 4:

Safety: Reed diffusers and room sprays eliminate the risk of an open flame, making them safer for homes with pets or small children.

Consistency: They provide a consistent scent without the need for monitoring or trimming wicks.

Longevity: While candles have a limited burn time, diffusers and sprays can last longer, providing fragrance for weeks or months. To ensure your room has a lasting, subtle fragrance simply flip your reeds once a week and replace your reeds every 3 months.

Cost Effective: Room sprays are really cost effective, one small spray each time gives an instant burst of fragrance meaning your bottle will last a long time. You can also save costs with diffusers by purchasing diffuser refills which consist of replacement oil and reeds rather than re-purchasing the diffuser bottle each time it’s empty.

Choosing a Home Fragrance To Suit Your Home

When considering alternatives, you need to find an option to suit your lifestyle and preferences. Some prefer the ambiance of candles during cosy evenings, while others might opt for the hassle-free nature of diffusers or room sprays for continuous fragrance. A lot of our customers enjoy a mixture of candles, diffusers and room sprays to give their home a long lasting fragrance throughout the day.

Remember, whichever option you choose, safety and proper usage are key to enjoying a fragrant and cosy home environment. With these tips, you can make the most out of your favourite scents while keeping your home safe and welcoming.
